What glitch text actually is — and how it works
Glitch text is built using Unicode combining characters — special marks that the Unicode standard defines as modifiers to be layered on top of, below, or through a base character. Normally, combining marks are used for things like accent marks in French or Spanish (the acute accent over an e in café is a combining character attached to the base letter e). Glitch text uses this same technical mechanism but stacks many additional combining marks above and below each letter — overline marks, underline marks, and through marks — creating the visual illusion that the text is falling apart or being corrupted by noise.
The result is sometimes called Zalgo text, named after an internet creepypasta character associated with corrupted, chaotic imagery. Zalgo text typically stacks the most marks for the most extreme effect. The glitch style in this generator is moderated — enough marks to create a clearly corrupted look without making the words completely illegible.
Strikethrough text works through a similar mechanism: a single horizontal combining mark drawn through each letter. Upside-down text uses a different approach — it maps each letter to a Unicode character from another block that happens to look like the original letter flipped or mirrored, often borrowed from phonetic alphabets or mathematical symbols.

Is glitch text safe to use in usernames?
